Location of the conference

Mayotte is composed of two inhabited islands : Grande Terre and Petite Terre. Petite Terre is the smaller one, where the airport is located. Travelling to Grande Terre is done using a barge, available every 30 minutes. The conference site is located in Petite Terre, next to the airport but hotels are located near the barge on either island. Buses will be available to go from the hotel and barge each day to the conference site.

Travel

Mayotte airport is located in Dzaoudzi town in Petite Terre. It connects to the international airports of Paris, La Réunion, Nairobi and Antananarivo by three companies : Air Austral, Kenya Airways and Air Madagascar.

We advise participants to plan for enough travelling time before the ice breaking event of Tuesday the 6th in the evening as plane delays are unfortunately common when arriving in Mayotte.

Language

Mayotte is a French territory and as such the official language is French. Outside of administration and businesses however, most people will speak either one of the two local languages : maore, which is a dialect of kiswahili spoken in Kenya or Tanzania and has the higher number of speakers, and kibushi (Kibosy or Bushi), a dialect of malagasy.
